History of the NAD

The first Deaf organisation was founded in 1921 by deaf painter Ivan Smole (pupil of Adalbert Lampe - famous deaf teacher) in Zagreb. At that time it was called 'Dobrotvor'. After the Second World War all documentation and Statute of 'Dobrotvor' was burned down by communists and new organization was formed. It was called 'United peoples front of Croatian Deaf', very soon after that 'Yugoslavian Association of Hearing impaired' was formed, and the year after 'United peoples front of Croatian Deaf' changed its name to 'Executive board of Yugoslavian Association of Hearing Impaired in Croatia'. From that period  the most productive decades of our organisation started. Financing from the State was stable, and the organisation had plenty of activities. 1955. II World Congress of WFD was held in Zagreb. When the new Croation State was formed our organisation changed its name to the present one.

Who are the most important people in your country's history?
