EUD are very pleased to have organised a very successful and inspiring conference at the European Parliament on 19 November 2010. The "Implementation of Sign Language Legislation" conference was a joint event, hosted by Dr. Ádám Kósa, MEP from the European People's Party and EUD.
The Conference was under the High Patronage of Professor Jerzy Buzek, President of the European Parliament. László Tőkés, Vice-President of the European Parliament opened the Conference along with Viviane Reding, Vice-President of the European Commission and EU Commissioner for Justice, Fundamental Rights and Citizenship. Other speakers included Berglind Stefánsdóttir, President of EUD, Markku Jokinen, President of WFD, Maya de Wit, President of the European Forum of SL Interpreters, and Liz Scott Gibson, President of the World Association of SL Interpreters, among others.

At the end of the Conference, the Brussels Declaration was signed by representatives of all National Associations of the Deaf. The Declaration is a document advocating the rights of Deaf people across Europe.
It will hopefully be a useful tool in achieving equality for Deaf people. The full text can be viewed here.
EUD also launched its book on sign language laws around Europe, which was given to all participants.
'Sign Language Legislation in the Europe Union' presents up-to-date information on European sign language legislation. Just like the Brussels Declaration, this book will be a useful tool in achieving the recognition of sign languages not only at European but also at national level. Download the summary
