Mission statement of the organisation

a) create specific conditions for the development and satisfaction of the needs and interests of the members and inform them of the association's activities.

b) persistently defend the rights and specific interests of the members and actively pursue their solution.

c) inform the public of the issues of the deaf for these to be viewed as integral part of the society.

d) perform social prevention, provide counsel and information to the citizens with impaired hearing using sign language, precise articulation and available information means.

e) secure education of interpreters of the sign language, articulation interpreters, employees of ANEPS, social workers and volunteers.

f) secure publicity of ANEPS activities in its own magazine as well as other media and to acquire advertising partners.

Status of Sign Language

Is Sign Language legally recognised as part of your Government's constitution? No, Sign Language is not recognised as a part of government constitution, but we have law about signing communication from 1995.

 

Status of Sign Language Interpreters

Approximate number of qualified sign language interpreters: Approximately 25-35. Interpreters have own organisation named ATLPRENES (association of sign language interpreters)

Deaf centre/clubs

How many deaf centres/clubs? 25 are clubs of Aneps and approximately 10 independent. (youth, Christian, sport)

Details of the deaf centre/clubs: Usually is meeting day Saturday.

 

Universities/Sign Language Units

Are there any Universities that deals with Sign Language? (Deaf Studies, Linguistics, Interpreting) No, only in Comenius university, is department of deaf education. (preparing teacher for deaf)

 

Deaf Schools

Number of Deaf Schools: 5 elementary schools and 3 high schools.

Education method (Sign Language, Oral or other methods): Using all available methods like sign language, oral methods, total communication it depend on school.

 

History of the NAD

Aneps is founding by government (founding interpreting servis) and private donors. Biggest private donor is telecommunication company.
