Update on European Accessibility Act

Update on European Accessibility Act

Our President, Markku Jokinen took the opportunity of being in Brussels to address the concerns regarding the amendments on the European Accessibility Act (EAA), which was first proposed by the European Commission, back in 2015. The European Accessibility Act aims at improving the functioning of the internal market for accessible products and services by removing barriers created by divergent legislation. This will facilitate the work of companies and will have huge benefits for persons with disabilities and older people in the EU.

The EUD has been following the legislative process for the past two years.
Together with the European Disability Forum (EDF) we took part in a demonstration in the form of an information stall outside the European Parliament in Brussels.
Our Executive Director, Mark Wheatley visited the European Parliament in Brussels to discuss further with Ádám Kósa MEP about the upcoming vote and to get his expert opinion regarding the Act’s effect on the deaf community in Europe.

We will be visiting the European Parliament in Strasbourg, France for the plenary vote on the EAA on the 14th of September 2017.

Don’t forget to follow us on EUD’s social media!
