Board Meeting in Las Palmas, Spain

Board Meeting in Las Palmas, Spain

The final board meeting of 2016 took place in Las Palmas, Gran Canaria in Spain. The EUD board conducted its meeting during the first two days of our stay, reviewing the work of 2016 and exploring the possibilities for 2017. Other topics were discussed, for example how EUD can support advocacy for the implementation of the sign language resolution in the Member states as well as EUD’s cooperation with our partner organisations in the coming year.

EUD had the great opportunity to meet the deaf community in Gran Canaria at its club in Las Palmas and to have a direct exchange with many of its members.

During a conference on the 17th of December, organised by the Federation of associations of the deaf of the Canary Islands, FASICAN, the EUD board provided information about EUD’s work as well as other important topics, such as deaf education, to the deaf community of the Canary Islands. Interesting presentations were given, including on the importance for deaf persons to know their national or regional sign language legislation and to compare them to examples of strong adoption and implementation in other countries, as this can help them to better advocate for sign language rights in their country. The conference was well received with 175 persons attending.

We would like to thank FASICAN for their work in preparation of and hospitality during our stay in Gran Canaria. FASICAN celebrated their 20th anniversary during our stay and we feel very honored to have been invited to attend their celebration gala! Congratulations to FASICAN and we hope to continue our cooperation in the future!
