EUD reopens its external communication

EUD

We would like to share the latest news with you and update you on what has happened during the summer holidays.

Our Executive Director of EUD, was invited to attend the Austrian Education Conference on 12 July in Vienna and speak about European-wide Deaf education and legislation.

Our EUD president, Markku Jokinen received an honorary doctorate degree on 24 August in Finland for his involvement with the founding of the sign language teaching department and his advocacy work regarding language, culture, and education for the deaf across the world.

Annika Pabsch, EUD Policy Officer visited Malta to give a talk about sign language legislation, meeting the minister for family and social solidarity and supporting the Deaf Association in its work and aspirations to seek funding for full-time staff. We hope it will make a difference for the Maltese Deaf community in the coming weeks and months.

This term, we will be having some exciting events coming up, especially the European Parliament elections in May 2014. We will be initiating a large-scale campaign and interview some MEPs to see what their ambitions are with regard to Deaf citizens in the EU.

In other news, there will be an important conference taking place in Brussels focusing on shale gas that will be interpreted into International Sign thanks to EUD’s persistent lobbying activities. The European Green Party will hold this event on 5 September and will be live streamed. More information is provided here.
