On the 23rd of September, EUD followed an online discussion on the Web Accessibility Directive, organised by the European Disability Forum (EDF), in collaboration with the Directorate-General for Communications Networks, Content and Technology of the European Commission.

The Web Accessibility Directive, adopted in 2016, set 23 of September 2020 as the date by which all public sector websites across the EU would have to be accessible for persons with disabilities. The objective of this online event was to mark this important milestone for digital accessibility and participation in the EU.

During the event, key stakeholders highlighted achievements and remaining challenges in terms of practical implementation of web accessibility from different perspectives, including policy makers, Member States, activists, users, academia and accessibility professionals. EUD will continue to engage with its members to advocate for the implementation of EU accessibility legislation at the national level, as well as to engage with different stakeholders strategically to increase accessibility.
