EUD participated in a meeting with Microsoft’s Chief Accessibility Officer CAO

On 18th of October, EUD participated in a meeting with Microsoft’s Chief Accessibility Officer CAO Jenny Lay-Flurrie, who is deaf.

Her presentation focused on the work Microsoft has done with regards to accessibility. We in EUD asked many questions in relation to the United Nations Convention on the Rights for Persons with Disabilities and how Microsoft are following it.

We also discussed how accessibility is changing with innovation and Microsoft as a good practice example for inclusive hiring and for providing reasonable accommodation for its disabled employees.

Finally, the participants provided input as to know how Microsoft can influence EU policy-making on accessibility in the European Union, for example by doing awareness-raising trainings of staff of the EU institutions that is drafting EU legislation on that and related topic.

It was a very interesting discussion and it was inspiring to see a deaf individual as Chief accessibility Officer of Microsoft!
