EUD highly encourages you to fill in the European Commission’s public consultation on the evaluation of the European Disability Strategy 2010 – 2020. Not only is it important to have your say, but it is also important that as many people as possible respond to the consultation, to show the Commission that there is real interest in having a strategy for 2020-2030.
For EUD and the European Commission it is essential to have your views on whether the EU Disability Strategy is being implemented, whether it has led to suitable policies/measures and how it has influenced implementation of the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (UNCRPD). The results of the public consultation will be used to help shape future policies and especially to convince the European Commission to develop the future European Disability Strategy 2020 – 2030.
In the public hearing at the European Parliament, Commissioner-designate for Equality Helena Dalli, who will be responsible for disability issues, was asked about her commitment to the future EU Disability Strategy. Her response? Everything depends on the evaluation of the current strategy.
EUD considers the European Disability Strategy as an extremely valuable tool to implement the UN CRPD and to raise awareness about the disability on the EU level.
