Inclusive Employment – Side Event to High-Level Political Forum

On the 14th of July 2021, EUD attended an event called ‘Inclusive employment models and technology to achieve sustainable and resilient recovery for youth with disabilities’. The event was organised by Leonard Cheshire International (LCI), who presented their global work on inclusive employment pathways for youth with disabilities during the pandemic.

During the event, the speakers discussed the barriers to equal access to employment faced by youth with disabilities, such as the lack of access to technology. LCI presented the findings of their project, A2E, including its progress in Thailand. The event provided examples of employment solutions for youth with disabilities in places such as Kenya, within the Innovation to Inclusion (i2i) programme which includes e-learning, virtual job fairs, and a mobile app called i2i Talent.

This event provided examples of how to achieve sustainable and resilient recovery from the pandemic to improve the lives of youth with disabilities. It was useful to consider the future potential of technology in inclusive employment, especially for those who are deaf and hard of hearing.
