EUD Board and Staff visits Bratislava, Slovakia

We, the EUD board and staff were honoured to take part in yesterday’s cocktail reception hosted by Slovak MEP Jana Žitňanská who had invited the EUD board and staff along with the Slovak national associations of the deaf and the Slovak deaf community. The turnout was excellent by having over 35 guests from all over Slovakia for this special event. The EUD board members used the opportunity to give a presentation about the EUD itself and to strengthen ties with the local deaf community.

The EUD board members also talked extensively with MEP Jana Žitňanská about various issues on a Slovakian and international level, such as the daily TV news flash from deaf persons for deaf persons in Slovakia that she helped establish, Slovakia’s private video relay sign language interpretation service, the importance of sign language recognition in the EU, her cooperation with other MEPs on deaf issues as well as on how deaf persons can actively and successfully advocate for their rights on a European level and the importance of the involvement of deaf leaders in Europe.

Also, the third quarterly board meeting took place on 17 & 18 September. The board followed up on EUD’s annual general assembly in the Netherlands and started preparing for the next one in Malta in 2017, which will be very exciting for EUD, as a new board will be elected at that time.
