1. Update on European Social Fund+ (ESF+)

On the 16th of January, the European Parliament (EP) adopted its position on the proposal for the Regulation on the new European Social Fund+ (ESF+) for the period of 2021 to 2027. EUD welcomes European Parliament’s position on the new ESF+ since it is inclusive of people with disabilities and many provisions are in line with the obligations listed in the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities.

2. Revised Audio-Visual Media Services Directive (AVMSD)

On the 14th of November 2018, the Council of the European Union formally adopted the revised Audio-Visual Media Services Directive (AVMSD). The revised AVMSD is now published in the Official Journal of the EU, which is the final step in the legislative process. The revised AVMSD entered into force on the 20th day after its publication in the Official Journal of the EU, and since then, Member States of the EU have 21 months to transpose it into national legislation.

3. Frankie Picron

We have employed a new Policy Assistant - Frankie Picron from Belgium. He will be working with our EUD Policy Officer, Martyna Balčiūnaitė.


4. Huawei's DigitALL 2019 Chinese New Year Reception

On the 7th of February, Huawei, a provider of information and communications technology (ICT), hosted the annual Chinese New Year reception in Brussels, during which the panel discussion entitled DigitALL took place. EUD Executive Director Mark Wheatley was invited as a keynote speaker to present an app developed by Huawei - StorySign.
