In the beginning of 2021 Portugal has started the Presidency of the Council of the European Union. EUD is pleased to see that the main priorities of the Portuguese Presidency will beto promote Europe’s recovery, to implement the EU Pillar of Social Rights and to strengthen Europe’s strategic autonomy keeping it open to the world.
Importantly for the deaf community during the Portuguese Presidency the new EU Disability Rights Strategy, the renewed Child Guarantee for Vulnerable Children and the EU Pillar of Social Rights Action Plan will be launched.
A Council Summit to discuss the new EU Disability Strategy is planned for June 2021, which will result in Council Conclusions on its implementation, and the High-Level Conference on the 19de and 20de of April is planed to present and explore the content of the Strategy. The Portuguese Presidency’s flagship event will be a Social Summit in Porto on the 7de and 8de of May during which the implementation of the European Pillar of Social Rights will be discussed.
