Preparation for the UN ECE Regional Forum on Sustainable Development 2021

Regional Forum for Sustainable Development and the Civil Society Forum

On the 17th of November EUD participated in the virtual meeting organised by the Regional Civil Society Engagement Mechanism (RCEM) for the Agenda 2030 in Europe. During the meeting civil society representatives had a chance to receive an update regarding the upcoming Regional Forum on Sustainable Development 2021. Europe’s Regional Forum on Sustainable Development is an annual event where key stakeholders from governments, civil society, academia and the private sector engage in intense discussions, peer learning and exchange of views how to accelerate efforts to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in Europe.

During the meeting, it was presented that the Forum in 2021 will be focus on sustainable and resilient recovery from the COVID-19 pandemic and needed actions for the delivery of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development in the UNECE Region. The Forum will take place in March as a hybrid meeting, meaning that it will be a mixture of virtual and in person meetings. During the Forum governments, civil society and other stakeholders will focus how the implementation of SDGs could contribute to the green and sustainable recovery from COVID-19 crisis.

EUD participates in the Regional Forum on Sustainable Development annually, however, regrets that the forum is not fully accessible for deaf participants. During the meeting EUD took an opportunity to highlight that the Forum should be accessible for all and interpretation in International Sign as well as captioning should be provided. EUD as part of the constituency of persons with disabilities of RCEM hopes this will be taken on board by the organisers and no one will be left behind from the Forum in 2021.
