Lights, camera, action! The Co-production process : shaping all together a more inclusive society

On 2 June 2015, European Association of Service Providers for Persons with Disabilities (EASPD) organised a panel debate with Members of the European Parliament, Disable Persons Organisations (DPOs) and support services organisations on how to reinforce “Users’ involvement in all aspects of support services”. What is the new role of organisations that want to be of support for persons with disabilities? What do users want service providers to do to promote inclusion and implement the principles of the United Nations Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (UN CRPD)? There is a need to reinforce cooperation between persons with disabilities, public authorities and support services organisations to develop comprehensive policies and to facilitate the right support services.

Mark Wheatley, Executive Director of European Union of the Deaf (EUD) addresses EUD`s perspective especially on Sign Language interpretation for the deaf people across the EU. There are on-going problems from individual, National and European Level. Also he took the opportunity to express his concern regarding the issues for the UN CRPD Committee to highlight that the EU needs to work more on the recognition of Sign Language in the EU and its Member States.
