Reinforcing the Youth Guarantee

Youth Guarantee

On the 2nd of March EUD attended a strategic dialogue meeting on reinforcing Youth Guarantee at the European Commission. The Youth Guarantee is a commitment by all Member States to ensure that all young people under the age of 25 years receive a good quality offer of employment, continued education, apprenticeship, traineeship within a period of four months of becoming unemployed or leaving formal education.

During the meeting the European Commission explained that it is planning on putting forward a proposal for a Council Recommendation on reinforced Youth Guarantee in the second quarter of 2020. The strategic dialogue was a part of a series of targeted consultations with the different stakeholders. The European Commission aimed at collecting views on how the current Youth Guarantee policy framework could be best improved.

Smaller discussions took place in four groups and the main suggestions were then reported back during the plenary session. EUD took an opportunity to emphasise that different types of accessibility needs to be considered and that the issue of coordination of support for the people with disabilities remains and needs to be addressed (e.g. who is responsible for ensuring accessibility and who should cover the different costs).

All the publications from 2022 - 2026 are co-funded by and produced under the European Commission’s Citizens, Equality, Rights and Values (CERV) Programme.

Views and opinions expressed are however those of the author(s) only and do not necessarily reflect those of the European Union or the European Commission’s CERV Programme. Neither the European Union nor the granting authority can be held responsible for them.
