Cea de-a 16-a sesiune CRPD

From 24th to 26th of August, EUD will be in Geneva to participate in the 16th UN CRPD review session which has been ongoing since 15th of August and will last until 2nd of September.

Italy will be up for review, so we are looking forward to supporting the Italian National Agency for the protection and assistance of the Deaf in their advocacy efforts. Giuseppe Petrucci, its president and Humberto Insolera, who is also EUD vice-president, will be representing the Italian Deaf community. It is important that Italy receives a comprehensive list of issues to be tackled in response to the state report of the Italian government as well as a useful list of concluding observations on how to successfully implement the CRPD in Italy, as this input can help improve the lives of disabled persons in Italy, including its deaf community. Furthermore, the UN CRPD committee will, in a public reading, give a general comment on article 24 of the UN CRPD on the right to inclusive education, providing an additional interpretation on how this article has to be understood from the point of view of the committee. EUD has been in communication with members of the committee and will use the opportunity to personally talk to committee members to inform them about deaf perspectives on this topic.
