Seminar on “Inclusive education for learners with disabilities”

Seminar on "Inclusive education for learners with disabilities"

On 16th of November, EUD participated in a seminar on “Inclusive education for learners with disabilities” that took place in the European Parliament. It was co-organised by MEP Ádám Kósa, MEP Helga Stevens, MEP Silvia Costa and the European Agency for Special Needs and Inclusive Education.

In several panels, various aspects of inclusive education were discussed.

First, the progress made at European and international levels as well as existing support mechanisms for inclusive education were discussed.

Then, experts from the ministries of education from Italy, Estonia and Scotland presented examples on how their countries implement inclusive policies. They highlighted formal and informal ways in which students with disabilities are provided with reasonable accommodation in their countries in order to be able to receive an education in a mainstream class.

Accessibility experts from several IT companies, such as Apple, Microsoft and Samsung, elaborated in the final panel on how technology can provide valuable technological support for children with disabilities and which advances have been made, for example regarding hearing devices for hard of hearing children.
