On the 20th of February of 2020, the Committee on Employment and Social Affairs of the European Parliament adopted the text of the motion for the Resolution on the EU disability strategy post 2020. The motion for Resolution calls for the European Commission to be ambitious while delivering the post 2020 EU disability strategy. It includes a number of suggestions made by the organisations representing persons with disabilities.

The European Disability Strategy 2010-2020 has been the main instrument for the implementation of the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (UNCRPD) at the EU level. Since last summer the European Commission has been analysing and evaluating the former strategy to prepare the new European Disability Strategy 2020-2030.

EUD celebrates the achievements of the European Disability Strategy 2010-2020 such as the adoption of the European Accessibility Act, the Web Accessibility Directive, the revisions of the European Electronic Communications Code and the Audiovisual Media Services Directive. However, EUD is aware that much more needs to be done in the coming decade for the EU to live up to its commitments under the UNCRPD.

The text of the motion for Resolution on the EU disability strategy post 2020 adopted by the Committee on Employment and Social Affairs of the European Parliament still needs to be voted upon in the plenary session of the European Parliament. The vote will take place on the 11th of March 2020.
