The European Union of the DEAF (EUD) is a European non-profit making organisation whose membership comprises National Associations of Deaf people in Europe. EUD was established in 1985, and is the only organisation representing the interests of Deaf Europeans at European Union level. EUD aims to establish and maintain EU level dialogues, making sure deaf issues are raised. We do this in consultation with National Deaf Associations' members.

Mark Wheatley at seminar in Amsterdam

Mark Wheatley attended a seminar on European Deaf Cinema and the European Association of Deaf Filmakers and Festivals in Amsterdam. He gave a presentation about the EUD and gave information on the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities.

Council decides on the European Community becoming a party to the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (UNCRPD)

On 26 November 2009 the Council paved the way for the conclusion, by the European Community (EC), of the 2006 UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (UNCRPD).
