EN : The Union of the Deaf in Bulgaria  is the oldest (established on July 12, 1934) and the largest non-governmental organisation in Bulgaria. UDB has good relations with other international non-governmental organisations and is an full member of the World Federation of the Deaf, World Federation of the Deaf Youth Section, European Union of the Deaf, European Union of the Deaf Youth. The organisation works mainly for deaf and hard of hearing citizens in Bulgaria, which includes members in all age groups – teenagers, young and adults. UDB takes care of the social adaptation and personal identification of deaf people, supports the educational and intellectual development of deaf people, offers organisational, cultural and tourist activities. In addition, it renews and popularises the Bulgarian Sign Language (BGSL) as a means of communication between deaf people and the social environment.

    Today, UDB has 4,908 members organised in 12 regional organisations in the cities of Sofia, Plovdiv, Varna, Burgas, Pleven, Haskovo, Yambol, Dupnitsa, Ruse, Stara Zagora, Gorna Oryahovitsa and Shumen, to which there are 40 territorial organisations of the deaf.

Съюзът на глухите в България е най-старата (създадена на 12 юли 1934 г.) и най-голямата неправителствена организация в България. СГБ има добри отношения с други международни неправителствени организации и е пълноправен член на Световната федерация на глухите, Световната федерация на младежката секция на глухите, Европейския съюз на глухите, Европейския съюз на глухите младежи. Организацията работи основно за глухи и слабочуващи граждани в България, като включва членове във всички възрастови групи – юноши, младежи и възрастни. СГБ се грижи за социалната адаптация и личностната идентификация на глухите хора, подпомага образователното и интелектуалното развитие на глухите хора, предлага организационна, културна и туристическа дейност. Освен това обновява и популяризира българския жестов език (БЖЕ) като средство за комуникация между глухите и социалната среда.

    В наши дни в СГБ членуват 4 908 членове, организирани в 12 районни организации в градовете София, Пловдив, Варна, Бургас, Плевен, Хасково, Ямбол, Дупница, Русе, Стара Загора, Горна Оряховица и Шумен, към които има 40 териториални организации на глухите.
