European Disability Forum (EDF)’s Press Conference on the new European Disability Card.

EUD had the honour of attending the press event organised by the European Disability Forum (EDF) on the new European Disability Card. The event took place on September 6th, when the Commission announced the proposal for the Card. EUD’s participation in this event was significant, as it aligned with EUD’s commitment to advocating for the rights and inclusion of Deaf individuals across Europe.

The event focused on gathering feedback and expectations from persons with disabilities and cultural institutions that would utilise the European Disability Card. The President of EDF, Yannis Vardakastanis alongside the European Commissioner for Equality, Helena Dalli, Belgian Minister of Pensions and Social Integration, Karine Lalieux and a representative from a cultural institution that already accepts the Card, were among the key speakers at the press conference.

EUD’s involvement in the event highlighted its dedication to promoting equal access and inclusion for Deaf people in various aspects of life. The discussions during the press conference and the subsequent activities, such as the cocktail and museum visit, showcased the practical benefits of the European Disability Card for individuals with disabilities, including those who are Deaf.

Overall, the event provided an opportunity for EUD to engage with relevant stakeholders, contribute its perspectives, and reinforce its advocacy efforts in line with the broader objectives of achieving equality for Deaf people in Europe.
